Rowena who travels…

December 1, 2013

Here I sit, at a table in Sydney, on a breezy, early-summer afternoon. I am at the house of an old friend, from school. Anna is gracious and hospitable; her welcome is warm and friendly; the food, wine and conversation is good. She is inspiring me to learn the ukelele in 2014.

Just after midnight on Saturday morning, in cold rain and darkness, I caught a bus from home in Orbost, to Sydney. Victoria to NSW. The car, my original transport, was languishing in a garage in town, suffering from some engine failure, so, second choice- bus. And a 12 hour journey in the night… Meeting dawn at some small country, coastal town, and breakfasting in another. Then Sydney, all bustle and noise, by midday. Then on to Anna’s house. Her husband is away, but at least I have spent fun time here with her.

Tomorrow, my long service leave takes off. Literally. Next time I write here, it will be in the USA. Cold indeed.
Exciting.

This is a kind of paid sabbatical- at least you could describe it thus.

I guess I will just describe it as fun!
