A welcoming place…

Sunday and snow in Athens.

December 9, 2013

The big storm across the USA certainly affected us here in Ohio. Much snow. Much. Much. Utterly beautiful scenery. Difficult to drive in…. Although Adrienne and Emil are good drivers, it was rather ummmm”exciting” at times! Like when Adrienne backed across the road, so as to have enough speed to zoom up the driveway, up the hill, to the house. She had to go fast to get up through snow and maybe mud, up a steep dirt track. She has snow tyres, but not a 4 wheel drive. Even walking in such snow can be a challenge.

But ahhhhhhh…. It made for lovely surrounds.

We left for church early, as the 30 min journey would take longer in the snow. A Christmas breakfast was being held… Lots of warm food, in a warm hall. Folk were welcoming.

Then church itself. Many wonderful things…

# a handbell choir

# a vocal choir…. Britten’s carols

# lovely interior

# great minister and sermon

# an unexpected welcome to me, indicating that this day was the Silver Jubilee of my ordination as a UCA minister.

Afterwards, my family hosted morning tea… With a very good surprise- a Jubilee cake! considering my own parish gave me a celebration before I left… Well. This was fun!

Anna and co were all there too.  Her children enjoy church.

Midday saw us at Anna’s house. The children were pleased to see us. They were out play in the snow when we arrived, and between car and house, Noah filled my unzipped handbag with snow… Such are the games of the young! He thought it was a fun thing to do!

Later, Adrienne, Anna, and I went to a swop meet- a craft one. The rule was that as many craft things you brought in, you could take out, from other people. Well forewarned in advance, I had made 10 items… As had we all, so our haul was tremendous!

Finally, later, tired but happy, we drove through early evening snow, back to the farm.

A very good day…
